Recombinant lentivirus is the most commonly used viral vector for efficient gene delivery into mammalian cells. Unlike plasmid DNA vectors, which only enable transient and episomal expression of foreign genes, lentiviral vectors achieve permanent gene expression by integrating into the host cell genome.
